South Downs Way

The SDW is a 105 mile National Trail running between Winchester in Hampshire and Eastbourne, East Sussex.  I completed it in sections in 2003: Eastbourne to Alfriston (Seven Sisters), Eastbourne to Southease (Bridleway), Southease to Pyecombe, Pyecombe to Amberley, Amberley to Buriton, Buriton to Winchester (Hampshire).

This was my first National Trail and a wonderful introduction to long distance walking.  The first couple of sections are probably the most spectacular, with Seven Sisters and Devils Dyke being the most memorable.

I took many pictures on this walk and a selection follow.

Amberley to Buriton

? 2003 - 23 Miles

At Amberley, I still had to walk on a couple of miles into Petersfield as I had missed the last bus.

Just off the way - Buriton duck pond

Buriton to Winchester

August 2003 - 24 Miles

Bus from Petersfield to Buriton.  Walked to Winchester and stayed in the wonderful YH situated (at the time) in the mill.  Finished walk around 2130!  The next day - had shuftie round the town, then train back home, a rosy glow of a job well done.

Butser Hill - A3 in distance (luvvly!)
