Parkland Walk

A bit of a departure for me, as virtually all my walking has been rural by choice (I have a bit of an Arkwright complex), although of course you have to go through some towns and villages.  This walk is in Northern London, from Finsbury Park, through Highgate to Alexandra Palace.  It follows a railway that was to be absorbed into London Underground as part of the Northern Heights expansion programme, but that pesky World War II put the kibosh on that.  Some more info HERE It is not  long, at 4 miles, but as I was walking with two lardbuckets I had to split it into two!  But, It was very refreshing to really take my time on this walk and go into annierak overdrive trying to look at the high level station at Highgate and peer into the tunnels as well as looking for any artefacts remaining of its previous life as a railway.  There is a nice Cafe in Finsbury Park and Ally Pally is well worth checkin out with great views across London (and another Cafe!)  The walk also has the exciting frisson of the reasonable expectation of being mugged, but my mate used to live in Hackney and can handle herself!  This walk was another casualty of my great hard drive picture meltdown massacre, but I have rescued a few from the website they were hosted on, and there are numerous websites that have very detailed imagery and description of this walk.  I would certainly suggest having a gander, If you happen to be with some mates, own a stab vest or go 'tooled up'! (Don't try this at home folks...)

And you wonder why I don't do urban walks....fortunately it all went swimmingly.  Apparently there are moves to make it safer with PCSO's or Street Wardens.  It's a bloody shame all this - I guess I'll have to get a body guard for some of the Lee Valley Way!  Also it is absolutely festooned with grafitti - although some of it is actually interesting and not just bloody annoying.
