Supershufflin' - Or 'The loneliness of the long distance walker'I have been walking long distance since Jan 2003 when it occurred to my skull that I was a lazy bleeder and needed to get off my arse every now and then - but what should I do? my existing interests and vocation were rather sedentary - but I had always had a love of travel and exploration (although back packing round Thailand is out of my league and requires a lot of wedge) so It made sense to explore my locality on foot and set myself a normal parameter of within 100 miles of home for rail and bus journeys for extended 'shuffling'. A day in the life of a regular shuffle is to get all the gear together the previous evening (OS maps, route guide, nosebag, clothing etc) and normally head on down to my local rail station around 8am. travel to the start of a new section of walking (say the Greensand Way) and insert my carcass into the vicinity. Then spend the next 7 hours walking with a couple of breaks for a brunch munch and water. Reach my destination then jump back on a train or couple back to my manor, not before I have taken lots of pics of scenery and adimalds and stuff to bore my friends with later. I have also been fortunate to have had opportunities to contaminate the countryside further afield, walking in Scotland, Cornwall, London, Glos, Oxon, Bucks, Avon, Suffolk, Berks, Hants, Surrey, Norfolk, Essex. Unfortunately I didn't get to set one boot on the Glyndwr's Way in 2006 as our Wales trip went pear shaped after Stain and Karen had a big barney and we had to curtail the trip, so Wales walking was so near but so far, but at least I got up Snowdon with my dad. We have also done Scafell Pike (2005) and Ben Nevis in 2008. And that's what flicks my switch - It takes allsorts innit.
